Training modules for citizens

A training is a structured process designed to impart or develop specific skills, knowledge, or abilities in individuals. It’s an intentional effort to improve a person’s capability, productivity, and performance in relation to a specific competency. Training is distinct from general education in that it has a very practical, and often immediate, goal: to help someone do something better. With this approach in mind, the RESILIAGE training package is structured to not only contain theoretical explanations but to give participants the opportunity to try what they have learnt through various practical exercises across the package.

The RESILIAGE Training modules for citizens consists of the following three modules::

· Risk awareness (here): this module focuses on increasing citizens’ understanding of natural hazards in their area and supporting them to learn simple, actionable steps to prepare themselves and stay safe in a potential disaster.

· Capacity building (here): this module focuses on understanding how citizens perceive risks and how their perceptions impact on their actions. The course also provides an overview of the importance of collective responsibility in emergencies.

· Psychological self-care (here): this module focuses on the theory of psychological stress, including symptoms of specific mental health conditions such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. The course also explains the most common coping mechanisms for stress as well as it provides hands-on practices to reduce stress in everyday life (e.g. breathing technique, guided imagery, mindfulness, etc.).
